About Mark Wiens

Mark Wiens is a globally renowned food and travel vlogger best known for his in-depth exploration of international cuisine on his popular YouTube channel, Migrationology, and his blog, Eating Thai Food. Born on February 26, 1986, in Phoenix, Arizona, Wiens developed an early passion for travel and diverse culinary experiences through his upbringing in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Wiens graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Global Studies from Arizona State University in 2008. His university studies further fueled his curiosity for global cultures and cuisines. He embarked on a backpacking trip across Central and South America, where he began to document his food experiences. His love for food and travel led him to launch his blog, Migrationology, in 2009 as a platform to share his gastronomic adventures.

In 2011, while living in Bangkok, Thailand, Wiens started his YouTube channel to chronicle his exploration of the vibrant street food scene. His enthusiastic demeanor, along with his unbridled passion for exotic flavoors, quickly garnered a loyal audience. His signature wide-eyed, head tilting reaction to tasting food became iconic among food lovers worldwide.

Wiens further popularised Thai cuisine with his second blog, Eating Thai Food, where he offers deep dives into Thai dishes, local eating culture, and guides for food-focused travellers. His blog also features authentic Thai recipes that he learned from his experiences eating with locals.

In 2013, Wiens published his first e-book, “Eating Thai Food Guide,” and later the “Bangkok 101 Guide,” both of which became indispensable resources for travelers seeking authentic Thai food experiences.

Wiens’ work has been instrumental in promoting global cuisine, with a particular emphasis on street food. He not only shares the flavours, textures, and aromas of the dishes he tries but also captures the cultural context and the stories of the people behind the food. His approach of eating local and trying everything has inspired countless viewers to explore new foods and cultures.

Despite his global food journey, Wiens holds a special place for Thai cuisine, partly due to his wife, Ying Wiens, who is of Thai heritage. Together, they continue to explore the world, uncovering culinary treasures and sharing them with millions of food and travel enthusiasts.

He continues to travel extensively, always ready to share his next food adventure with his audience.
